Shane Dowrich, the wicketkeeper for the West Indies, has announced his immediate retirement from international cricket. After being selected for the ODI team to play England, Dowrich has since withdrew, and a replacement has not yet been announced.
Dowrich played 35 Tests overall since making his debut in a Test against Australia in 2015. He had played just one ODI, which was against Bangladesh in 2019, and he was scheduled to play in the ODI series against England the following month. In December 2020, he made his final appearance for the West Indies against New Zealand.
“We are grateful to Shane for his contribution during his time as a West Indies player,” stated Miles Bascombe, the Director of Cricket at CWI. “He is a focused, disciplined cricket player who has always given it his all both in front of and behind the stumps.
“He had a remarkable series in 2019, helping us defeat England and win the Wisden Trophy with an incredible century in Test cricket on home soil in Barbados. We understand that it was not an easy decision for him to retire, and we respect that decision. As he exits the global arena, we send him our warmest wishes.”
