Mumbai’s Journey to the Final

In a stellar performance, Mumbai clinched a spot in their 48th Ranji Trophy final, showcasing cricket prowess against Tamil Nadu. The semi-final clash at the Bandra Kurla Complex witnessed Mumbai’s commanding victory, thrashing Tamil Nadu by an innings and 70 runs on the third day of the match.

A Strong Start to the Third Day

Resuming the day with a score of 353 for 9, Mumbai consolidated their position, concluding their first innings at 378. Tanush Kotian, unbeaten on 74 overnight, forged an impressive last-wicket partnership with Tushar Deshpande, extending it to 88 runs. Despite the anticipation of Kotian’s century, he was left stranded on 89 after Washington Sundar dismissed Deshpande.

Tamil Nadu’s Struggle Continues

Facing a significant deficit, Tamil Nadu once again found themselves in a challenging position. Shardul Thakur, who had showcased brilliance with the bat in the previous innings, continued to shine, dismissing N Jagadeesan and Sai Sudharsan early on. Mohit Avasthi added to the woes, getting Washington caught behind, leaving Tamil Nadu at 10 for 3.

Baba Indrajith’s Effort in Vain

Baba Indrajith emerged as a lone warrior for Tamil Nadu, contributing a resilient 70 runs before falling victim to Avasthi. Unfortunately, no other TN batter managed to cross the 25-run mark. Tanush Kotian’s crucial dismissal of R Sai Kishore just before tea further intensified Tamil Nadu’s struggle, with the team at 153 for 6.

Shams Mulani’s Spin Magic

Following the tea break, left-arm spinner Shams Mulani wreaked havoc in the Tamil Nadu camp, dismantling the lower order and securing four crucial wickets. Shardul Thakur, instrumental in both batting and bowling, earned the well-deserved title of Player of the Match for his outstanding century and four wickets in the game.
