‘Show Your Presence Like Virat Kohli…’: A Strong Message From An Ex-Pakistani Star To Rohit Sharma

Rohit joins team india training session here at the Arundel Castle Cricket Club.
Rohit Sharma, according to Kamran Akmal, needs to be more aggressive on the field.

During the forthcoming West Indies tour, Rohit Sharma will captain the Indian side in Tests and ODIs.

The BCCI released the Test and ODI squads for India’s upcoming visit of the West Indies earlier this week. Rohit Sharma will captain the team in both formats, with Ajinkya Rahane and Hardik Pandya serving as his deputy in Tests and ODIs, respectively.

Another significant development was the departure of senior hitter Cheteshwar Pujara from the team following his dismal performance with the bat in the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal offered his thoughts on the impending tour while analyzing India’s roster.

While India captain Rohit Sharma has done well in his brief term as India’s Test captain so far, Akmal believes he has to demonstrate more authority on the field, similar to his predecessor Virat Kohli.

“It’s a well-balanced team.” The Indian team must get off to a good start. I want Rohit Sharma to do better as captain. Show your presence on the field, as Virat Kohli did. He has an opportunity. (Having said that,) Rohit Sharma has done a good job so far following the Kohli issue,” Akmal stated on his YouTube channel.

Despite complimenting the selection committee, Akmal questioned the absence of Sarfaraz Khan and Umran Malik.

“There is always a discussion about one or two players.” Sarfaraz Khan is one player who comes to mind after looking at the records. He couldn’t play, but he should’ve traveled with the team. You could’ve told him that we’re not ignoring him and that there’s always the possibility of him returning in the future. There was an ideal tour for him to join the squad. Umran Malik, with his speed, may also have been fatal. “The pitch in West Indies is dry, and the Dukes ball will have reverse swing,” he continued.
