According to the former India cricketer, the KKR batting squad has done well in the IPL 2023, but the overseas star has been absent.
Aakash Chopra, a former Indian cricket team opener, was unimpressed with Andre Russell’s performance for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Russell got a fantastic start against Punjab Kings, but he has struggled to score much in the next two games, with Rashid Khan removing him cheaply in the latest encounter against Gujarat Titans. Chopra stated before of KKR’s game against Sunrisers Hyderabad that players such as Rinku Singh and captain Nitish Rana have stepped up, but Russell’s form remains a key issue for the Kolkata side.
“Kolkata is a winning squad. They appear to be a troubled team. Until now, Andre Russell’s bat has been silent. “It appears that something is missing in the batting, but Rinku Singh comes one day, Venkatesh Iyer comes the next, and now Nitish Rana has scored runs,” Chopra remarked.
In the previous game, both Nitish Rana and Venkatesh Iyer recovered their form against GT, with Rinku startling everyone with five sixes in five balls to earn a dramatic win for the team.
Chopra praised the batting unit in general and predicted how they will line up against SRH.
“Venky Iyer batted well and played well in both games.” His batting order has been shifted up and down slightly. He might bat third again, open up, or be pushed to fourth. If Russell scores runs, the team’s status will skyrocket,” he continued.
