After the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Team India will play Australia in the final of the World Test Championship (WTC). Ricky Ponting, who used to be the captain of Australia, recently said that the busy cricket schedule might be making Indian players feel tired. Ponting said on Star Sports that the Aussies will have a slight advantage going into the final because they haven’t played cricket for a while. Sunil Gavaskar, one of India’s most famous batsmen, has now replied to Ponting’s claims. The former India batter argued with Ponting’s comments by saying that match practice is very important before big games.
“I’ll give India the edge. I don’t agree that the factors are in Australia’s favor. Not even the fact that some of the Australians have been resting will help them. For a big match, you need to be able to run a long way. Most Indian players have already done that. Even one player who wasn’t in the IPL, Pujara, was playing county cricket and getting centuries for fun. “Yes, the Indians are in a better position,” Sunil Gavaskar was quoted as saying on India Today.
When they play on June 7 at The Oval in London, both India and Australia will try to win their first WTC title. The Australian team, which was led by Pat Cummins, won the top spot in the scores and made it to the final of the tournament.
Even though Australia has a great record in the current WTC cycle, they will be wary of the Kennington Oval because they haven’t done well there in the past. So far, the Aussies have only won seven of the 34 games played here, and there have been 14 draws. Seventeen times, they were beaten.
On the other hand, Team India’s record at the Oval is not very good either. Even though the Indian cricket team played 14 Tests here, they only won two of them. India beat England by 157 runs the last time they played here, which was two years ago.
