The Punjab Kings (PBKS) played the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 8 of the Indian Premier League 2023 on Wednesday at their second home ground for the season, the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. (April 05). In a high-scoring battle, Shikhar Dhawan and his team beat last year’s finalists by five runs to keep their winning streak going.

Punjab Kings, led by Dhawan, were asked to bat first. With 60 from the opener, Prabhsimran Singh, and 86 not out from the leader off 56 balls, they reached 197 for 4 in 20 overs. RR fought hard until the last over, but Nathan Ellis’ 4 for 30 helped his team beat Rajasthan by 5 runs. RR scored 192 for 7 thanks to captain Sanju Samson’s 44, Shimron Hetymer’s 36 (18), and newcomer and impact player Dhruv Jorel’s 15-ball 32 not out.

Gujarat Titans (GT), led by defending winner Hardik Pandya, and PBKS are still unbeaten and in first and second place, respectively. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), which Faf du Plessis lead, has also not lost a game, but they have played one less game than the top two teams.

On April 6, RCB will play the injury-plagued Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at KKR’s home field, the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. It will be interesting to see if RCB stays perfect after their first two games of the new season.
