Zak Crawley’s 158 leads Kent’s charge

Zak Crawley
Zak Crawley continued his stellar form from the Ashes series into the County Championship season

Due to the dogged determination of opener Sam Robson, Middlesex were able to avoid more humiliation despite having their odds cut to 19/5. He had a perfect score with 56 out of 173 balls when the rain put a stop to the game.

Zak Crawley’s 158 off 153 balls was the highlight of Kent’s first-day batting against Nottinghamshire. He added 153 for the second wicket with Daniel Bell-Drummond after putting on 95 runs with Ben Compton in the opening stand. Jack Leaning and Harry Finch’s unblemished 67-run stand bolstered Kent’s innings despite the fact that the pair fell in rapid succession after the partnership.

Shan Masood’s unbeaten 113 is the highlight of Yorkshire’s powerful batting performance against Glamorgan after they elected to bat. After an opening stand of 98 runs between Adam Lyth and Finlay Bean, Masood joined Bean for a second wicket stand of 127 runs. Although Bean fell short of his century by seven runs, Masood went on to score his own while he and George Hill added another uninterrupted 90-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Oliver Price struck an unbeaten ton that enabled Gloucestershire to get a respectable total after electing to bat despite a few slip-ups. After a robust opening stand of 80 runs, Gloucestershire lost two wickets in rapid succession. However, Price and his captain Graeme van Buuren halted the decline by combining for 157 runs.

Bowling performances

In the match between Leicestershire and Sussex, Matt Salisbury was outstanding with the ball for Leicestershire, taking five wickets and bowling Sussex out for just 262 runs. The bowler made quick work of the middle and lower ranks after he was successful in getting the skipper, Cheteshwar Pujara, out for 26. To prepare Leicestershire for their comeback, he finished the game by claiming four of the final five wickets and three of them for just nine runs.
