Akash Madhwal of the Mumbai Indians says he has been waiting for this moment since 2018.

Akash Madhwal of the Mumbai Indians says he has been waiting for this moment since 2018.

Akash Madhwal, who used to be an engineer but switched to cricket, got all the attention for his 5-for-5 spell against the Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday night at Chepauk. The right-arm seamer got rid of Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran, two of LSG’s best hitters this season, with consecutive balls, which helped Mumbai win by 81 runs.

After his spell, which made him the first bowler in IPL history to get nine wickets in two straight games, Akash talked about what it means to him and how he feels about it.

Akash played with a tennis ball until he was 23. When he got a chance to play in the IPL, he blew everyone away with his powerful hitting with both the new and the old ball. Even though he gave up more than nine runs per over, Madhwal has taken 13 wickets in seven games.

In the knockout game against Lucknow on Wednesday night in Chennai, Madhwal’s tight line and five wickets will be talked about for a long time. Madhwal told the reporters after the game more about how he felt after reaching this milestone. He said,

“I was very happy with Nicholas Pooran’s defeat. It was planned that when a left-handed batter came to bat, he would go around the wicket.

“I have practiced a lot and have been waiting for my chance. I have a degree in engineering, my love is cricket, and I’ve been waiting for this since 2018. When we train in the nets, the management tells us what to aim for, and we do our best to hit it. The right-arm seamer also said, “We hope to do well in the next games and want to win the whole thing.”

Taking lessons from the best
In Jasprit Bumrah’s absence, the overseas players Jofra Archer and Jason Behrendorff were meant to lead the way. However, injuries and bad form kept both of them from playing as much as they would have liked. In the big picture, they didn’t have much of an effect, but they did teach Madhwal a few tricks that the Indian bowler used well during his spells.

Akash said, “This is what I chose from them.”

“When I was with Jofra Archer, neither of us was on the team, so we both bowled Yorkers together. I’m learning how to throw a knuckleball from Jason Behrendorff. “I’m learning how to pitch the ball that seams up from Chris Jordan,” he said.

In the other game, Qualifier 2, which will take place on Friday in Ahmedabad, he will need to repeat his efforts against the Gujarat Titans.
