Senior India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s outstanding performance in the fourth Test against Australia has helped him reclaim the top spot among bowlers in the most recent ICC Rankings, which were released on Wednesday.
Ashwin is 10 rating points ahead of England seamer James Anderson, who took six for 91 in the drawn fourth Test and was the leading wicket-taker in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with 25 scalps.
Axar Patel, another Indian left-arm spinner, climbed six places to 28th among bowlers. He also climbed to fourth place in the all-rounder rankings, trailing only Ashwin and Jadeja.
Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has dropped to seventh place among bowlers as he recovers from a recurring back injury.
Shubhman Gill, who scored a century in the high-scoring match in Ahmedabad, jumped 17 places to 46th.
The Indian batters in the top ten are the injured Rishabh Pant (9th) and skipper Rohit Sharma (10th).
Australia’s Usman Khawaja and New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell have both risen to the top of the list.
Khawaja’s 180 in the drawn fourth Test against India in Ahmedabad has propelled him to seventh place and a career-high 815 rating points, while Mitchell’s knocks of 102 and 81 in the epic victory over Sri Lanka in Christchurch have propelled him to eighth place and a career-high 800 rating points for the first time.
Temba Bavuma’s match-winning 172 for South Africa has moved him 14 spots to a career high 15th position in the latest weekly update, which also takes into account performances in the second Test between South Africa and the West Indies in Johannesburg.
