Punjab Kings appear to be in trouble right now without skipper Shikhar Dhawan. PBKS were knocked out for 150 against Royal Challengers Bangalore while chasing a target of 175 runs. In the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, Sam Curran led the team with the bat but failed to inspire with the ball, being run out for 10 runs off 12 balls. Unimpressed with Curran’s decision-making, particularly his run out, Sehwag was blunt in his criticism of the English all-rounder, who was purchased in the auction for a record INR 18.50 crore.
Curran is still one of the game’s most sought-after all-rounders. However, at the age of 24, he lacks the experience of players like as Dhawan.
Curran, who was given the team’s baton in the absence of Dhawan, showed his inexperienced side in the encounter against Bengaluru after being run out in the previous match against RCB. In a harsh critique, Sehwag stated that Rs 18 crore cannot purchase experience.
“He’s a world-class player.” However, experience cannot be purchased for 18 crore. “It only comes when you play, when your hair turns white under the hot sun,” Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
“We believe he will win you matches simply because he was purchased for 18 crore.” But he hasn’t had that kind of experience yet. There was no necessity for that kind of jogging. You should have stayed and attempted to take it to the final overs, captain. But, once again, inexperience cost him,” the former India and Punjab Kings opener added.
With the loss to the Royal Challengers, the Kings dropped to seventh place in the points table, with three wins and three losses in six games. Though it is not quite over, Punjab would like to see their skipper Dhawan return soon and lead the team to solid success for the rest of the season.
