Chris Jordan, an all-rounder from England, has taken Jofra Archer’s place on the Mumbai Indians (MI) team for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season. Jordan will join the five-time winners MI for Rs 2 crore, and he should be ready for their next game on Tuesday night at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
“On Tuesday, the hurt Jofra Archer was replaced by Chris Jordan on the Mumbai Indians (MI) team for the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.” Jordan played in his first IPL game in 2016. He has now played in 28 IPL games and has 27 wickets to his name. “The fast bowler has played for England in 87 T20Is and taken 96 wickets in T20Is,” an IPL statement from Tuesday said.
Archer was only able to play in five of MI’s ten games this season, and he only managed to take two wickets. His economy rate was 9.5, and his average score was 95.
The England fast bowler, who is 28 years old, has been having trouble with an arm injury, which also kept him out of the IPL 2022 season. “It’s clear that the last two weeks haven’t been what you’d want after being so busy.” But that’s to be expected after being away for a long time: the body won’t be 100% right away. There will be times when it will seem a lot worse than it is. Archer told ESPNCricinfo last month, “I don’t know which game will be next, but I’m just trying to put myself in the best position possible to play.”
In his IPL record as a whole, Archer has taken 48 wickets in 40 games. At the IPL 2022 mega sale, the Mumbai Indians paid Rs 8 crore for him. Since then, though, he has only played in a few games.
Archer was supposed to lead MI’s attack for Rohit Sharma’s team, while pacer Jasprit Bumrah is out for the whole 2023 season with a back injury. Jordan was on the England team that won the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia last year. He has also played for RCB and the Chennai Super Kings.
Jordan has taken 27 wickets in 28 matches in the Indian Premier League so far, with a best of 4/11. The England Cricket Board (ECB) also stated that Archer was having trouble getting better from an elbow injury.
“Archer has been getting better after surgery on his right arm.” But it’s been hard to play through the pain while hoping it will go away while playing lately. So, it was decided that he would go back to the UK to rest and get better. “This would give him the best chance of making a full recovery,” an ECB statement said.
“The ECB would like to thank the Mumbai Indians for their help and cooperation during this time.” Archer will go back to the UK this week and work on his rehabilitation with the ECB medical team and the Sussex County Cricket Club, according to the statement.
