The incident took place in Johannesburg, where the West Indian cricketer is travelling to represent the Paarl Royals franchise

Fabian Allen, an international cricketer for West Indies, was recently the target of a distressing gunpoint robbery in Johannesburg.

The Jamaican all-rounder, who is 28 years old and presently a member of the Paarl Royals franchise in the SA20 league, was the target of an attack outside the team hotel. The incident deeply troubled the cricketer.

In close proximity to the prestigious Sandton Sun Hotel, the assailants approached Allen while brandishing firearms and forcibly seized his phone and personal belongings, which included a satchel. Concerns have been expressed regarding the safety of SA20 participants in light of the incident.

The incident has been verified by multiple Paarl Royals, SA20, and Cricket West Indies (CWI)-affiliated sources. A source for CWI confirmed the circumstance and guaranteed that Allen is unharmed. Furthermore, upon bringing the athlete into communication, a West Indies board representative conveyed a sense of relief.

“Our head coach Andre Coley, also hailing from Jamaica, reached out to Fabian. Contact was successfully established through Obed McCoy (another West Indies international). He is fine. CSA (Cricket South Africa) and his team, Paarl Royals, could share more details if there are any,” a top CWI official told CricAdvisor

Notwithstanding diligent efforts to acquire information, inquiries directed at the Paarl Royals administration remained unanswered. Although not explicitly denying the incident, a SA20 league spokesperson forwarded inquiries to a police officer who lacked immediate information at the time of publication. It was not possible to contact the athlete directly for comment.

Recent events have witnessed the recurrence of a security-related incident involving the SA20 participants. The division, now in its second season, has advanced to the play-offs. The Paarl Royals will face the Eliminator on February 7, following the conclusion of Qualifier 1 that evening. The date of the final match is February 10.
