The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially published the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 residual schedule, ending the anticipation.
The most significant announcement from the program, as reported by CricAdvisor, is that there will be no international matches during the IPL 2024. A total of 74 contests have been arranged to take place in India, with the competition culminating in the cities of Ahmedabad and Chennai.
Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator will be played on May 21 and 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Motera, whereas Qualifier 2 and the championship match will be played on May 24 and 26 at the Chepauk in Chennai. The selection process for the play-off centers, Ahmedabad and Chennai, follows the anticipated pattern. Since both the Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings were finalists in the previous year, their respective home venues have been selected for the quarterfinals, with the championship match taking place in the city of Chennai. Additionally, the first match of the season was played there.
The BCCI, having announced the dates of the initial twenty-one games in the first batch, has arranged a schedule that commences with the 22nd match commencing promptly on Monday, April 8. The second stanza, similar to the first, commences with a matchup featuring the Chennai Super Kings. On April 8, the defending champions will travel to the Chepauk to face Kolkata Knight Riders. Nighttime will be the setting for the game.
CricAdvisor was the first to report that the totality of the IPL 2024 will be played in India. This information contradicted rumors that the BCCI was considering holding a portion of the league’s second stage in the United Arab Emirates. BCCI secretary Jay Shah denied that possibility in an interview with CricAdvisor, and the IPL administration team has developed a comprehensive schedule based on all Indian centers.
Security concerns arose prior to the General Elections in India, which are slated to take place in seven phases throughout the nation from April 19 to June 1. The BCCI was confronted with this challenge on June 4. The BCCI has effectively managed the seven segments by ensuring that election dates in specific centers do not overlap, while also admirably maintaining the home and away format.
A handful of games are slated to take place in Dharamsala, the traditional second center of the Punjab Kings, as per the schedule. The Punjab franchise’s home games will be played in the hill town on May 5 (during the day against Chennai Super Kings) and May 9 (at night against Royal Challengers Bengaluru). Additionally, two games will be played in Guwahati, the preferred second base of the Rajasthan Royals. On May 15 and 19, they face Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders, respectively. The contest between RR and KKR is, coincidentally, the final match of the league phase.
On May 21, following a one-day break on May 20, the semifinals commence.
