KL Rahul suffered an injury during the Lucknow Super Giants’ IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
KL Rahul of the Lucknow Super Giants is likely to miss the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after suffering a significant thigh injury during the team’s previous game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. The PTI can also reveal that experienced pacer Jaydev Unadkat has a significant shoulder injury and has been ruled out of the IPL. It is expected that the BCCI Sports Science & Medical Team will be working against the clock to get senior batter-keeper Rahul ready for the World Test Championship final in London from June 7 to 11. Rahul sustained an injury to his right thigh while running towards the boundary in response to a Faf du Plessis cover shot off Marcus Stoinis’ bowling.
“KL is currently with the team in Lucknow, but he is leaving the camp on Thursday after watching the game against CSK on Wednesday. His scans will be done in Mumbai at the BCCI-designated medical facility. His case, as well as Jaydev’s, will be handled by BCCI,” a senior BCCI source familiar with the situation told PTI on condition of anonymity.
The source also verified that no scans have been performed as of yet.
“When someone suffers an injury like this, there is a significant amount of pain and swelling in and around the area; the swelling takes 24 to 48 hours to heal, and only then can you perform the scan.”
“Because he is an important member of the Test team, it would only be prudent that he does not participate in the IPL any further,” he continued.
“Once the scans determine the extent of injury, the BCCI medical team will determine the next steps,” the source stated.
Even in the case of Unadkat, it is understood that things are not looking good at the time.
“Yes, it’s a good thing Jaydev doesn’t have a dislocation, but the shoulder isn’t in great shape, and he can’t play IPL this season, and we don’t know if he’ll be fit in time for the WTC final,” he concluded.
