Kumar Sangakkara praises ‘talented, hard-working’ Yashasvi Jaiswal following his maiden ton in IPL 2023.

Rajasthan Royals director of cricket and head coach Kumar Sangakkara hailed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for his superb century against Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Sri Lankan icon Sangakkara hailed Jaiswal as a talented and hardworking cricketer who is also motivated and dedicated.

At the Wankhede Stadium, Jaiswal scored his first IPL century. He hit 124 runs off 62 balls, including 16 fours and eight sixes. After winning the toss and batting first, RR scored 212/7 thanks to his blasting ton.

In the post-match press conference, Sangakkara stated, “He is not only extremely talented but also extremely hardworking.” He’s put in a lot of time in preparation, including a lot of time in the nets. “He has been working on his game with us for three to four years, and the results demonstrate that he is incredibly focused and dedicated.”

He performed admirably today. “He batted almost the entire innings, which was exceptional,” Sangakkara added, “and he set us up for a fantastic total.” Yash has a long way to go, not only with us, but on a global scale. “He simply has to keep working hard, delivering runs, and banging on the door.”

“The wonderful thing about Yash is that he learns and continues to learn at a rapid pace.” He has a fantastic mindset. He is always upbeat in everything he does.”

On Sunday, Jaiswal attacked the pacers, particularly Jofra Archer, with equal ease, using cuts and pulls. With a strike rate of 165.69, he is the leading run-scorer in the IPL 2023 powerplay.

“It’s about playing good cricket shots, trusting his ability, reading the game situation really well, and maximizing it and keeping the intent going throughout the innings,” Sangakkara said.

“Before this IPL, he hadn’t batted much outside the powerplay, and his average against pace was a little low, but today and in the previous game, he showed that if he keeps his intent going, he has the ability to play big innings for us.”
