Melbourne Stars score big as Marcus Stoinis commits to three more seasons with the squad!

Marcus Stoinis has played 98 matches for Stars in the BBL

Marcus Stoinis, an all-rounder from Australia, has signed a three-year contract extension with the Melbourne Stars, which will keep him with the club through the conclusion of BBL16 in 2026-27.

Stoinis was the most prominent player whose contract was coming to an expiration for the Stars. Other clubs, including the Perth Scorchers, had expressed interest in luring him away, considering he is a Perth native who plays domestic cricket for Western Australia.

Stoinis began his Big-League Baseball tenure with the Scorchers in 2012-13, appearing in three games before joining the Stars for the subsequent season. Since then, he has appeared in 98 games. Next season, he will join Glenn Maxwell as the second Stars player to amass 100 appearances for the club. Maxwell accomplished the feat last year.

Additionally, Stoinis emerges as a prospective club commander subsequent to Maxwell’s resignation at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

Australia’s Twenty20 International squad for the forthcoming West Indies series includes the all-rounder, who is optimistic about his chances of being selected for the T20 World Cup squad. However, following his exclusion from the ODI squad, he disclosed that he will be playing more Twenty20 franchise cricket over the next few years, and it seems improbable that he will be awarded another central contract with Cricket Australia for the upcoming season.

Presently, he is a member of the SA20’s Durban Super Giants, an organization that is under the ownership of his IPL franchise, Lucknow Super Giants. Additionally, he participated in the inaugural Major League Cricket tournament in the United States the previous year for the San Francisco Unicorns, a franchise administratively managed by Cricket Victoria representatives who also supervise the Stars.
