At the “Southern Derby” between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday, IPL fans had a lot to look forward to. MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, two of India’s best cricket players, were on different teams, and fans were asking if it would be the last time they would see them together.
Dhoni’s team, CSK, won the IPL 2023 match on Monday night, but only just. They beat the home team, RCB, by eight runs, even though Kohli only scored six runs with the bat. Faf du Plessis, who is the captain of RCB, and Glenn Maxwell gave CSK a real scare before the four-time IPL winners won.
Fans were more interested in seeing Dhoni and Kohli meet up again after the game. A video of the two men talking to each other in Bengaluru after the match went viral on social media.
Dhoni said that he thinks it’s a “win” for himself if he can help the CSK bowlers on the field by giving them good advice. “If Faf and Maxi had kept going, they would have won by the 18th over,” Dhoni said in the post-game address. “You need to focus on the process, know the bowling change, what I can do from which end, what is happening, and if something has changed.”
“From close up, I can see it better, so I can tell if the ball will bounce off the ground for the spinners or the quicks.” I’m always doing things that need to be done. I’ve done my job well if I can give players a good field and excellent ideas. Handling youngsters at death is tricky because there is so much pressure, especially with the dew. They are putting in a lot of work. “So, they need to know how things work and what to do,” Dhoni said.
Devon Conway scored the most runs for CSK with 83 off 45 balls, and all-rounder Shivam Dube scored the most with 52 off 27 balls. Dhoni’s team got 226 for 6 after Du Plessis sent them to bat first. In their response, Kohli was taken out early by CSK’s “impact player,” Akash Singh, for 6. However, Du Plessis scored 62 runs off 33 balls, and Maxwell scored 76 runs off 36 balls to keep them in the game.
But in his first IPL 2023 game, young Sri Lankan bowler Mattheesha Pathirana stopped 19 runs in the last over to help his team win.
