New Zealand substitutes an uncapped ODI player for the injured Jamieson.

Ben Sears has been added to New Zealand’s ODI squad in place of Kyle Jamieson in preparation for the first match against Bangladesh, which commences on December 17.

Kyle Jamieson returned from Bangladesh, where the Black Caps participated in a two-match World Test Championship series, with hamstring discomfort. Thursday, Jamieson departed for Dunedin, New Zealand, following the Test squad’s Tuesday evening return to the country.

New Zealand Head Coach Gary Stead described the move to leave Jamieson out as “precautionary”.

“We’re taking a cautious approach with Kyle,” he said.

“We don’t want to rush or push him back, particularly at the very start of our home summer.

“He could play if absolutely necessary but we don’t want to take any unnecessary risks, hence calling in Ben for this first match.

While Sears has not yet made his ODI debut, he was a member of the team that participated in the Chappell-Hadlee Series in Cairns last year. He has made his debut in the shortest format for the Black Caps.

“Ben’s familiar to the team environment and it’s been good to see him back at full fitness for the Firebirds.”

The three-match ODI series kicks off on 17 December with matches in Dunedin, Nelson, and Napier.

New Zealand squad: Tom Latham, Adi Ashok (matches 2 and 3), Finn Allen, Tom Blundell, Kyle Jamieson, Mark Chapman, Josh Clarkson, Jacob Duffy, Adam Milne, Henry Nicholls, Will O’Rourke, Rachin Ravindra, Ish Sodhi (match 1), Will Young, Ben Sears.
