On Sunday, Sachin Tendulkar was very proud of his son Arjun when he played his first game in the IPL against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the home ground in Mumbai. Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, gave the 23-year-old his first cap.
With this, Sachin and Arjun became the first father-son duo to play together in the IPL. They talked about their feelings during the game, and the IPL Twitter account shared what they said.
“It was a great moment,” Arjun said about his first show. It feels special every time I play for the team I have cheered for since 2008. It was great to get the cap from the leader of MI and the Indian team.
Sachin got more emotional when he talked about how it made him feel to see his son play for the same IPL team he played for.
“This was a new experience for me because I had never been to see him play before.” I just wanted him to go out and do whatever he wanted. I also sat in the dressing room today because I didn’t want him to get distracted from his plans, look at the big screen, and then realize I was watching him. I was inside. It’s a different feeling because I started playing in 2008, and he’s still on the same team 16 years later. “Not too bad,” said Sachin.
When the game started, Arjun bowled the first two overs and gave up 17 runs without getting any outs. The first batsman for KKR, Venkatesh Iyer, scored 105 runs off 51 balls. Ishan Kishan scored 58 runs, and Suryakumar Yadav scored 43. This helped MI reach their goal in 17.4 overs. Arjun didn’t get to bat because Mumbai beat them by 5 runs.
After the match, Sachin also went on Twitter to congratulate his son and tell him it was “the beginning of a beautiful journey.”
