Rohit Sharma “Should Take A Break”: Sunil Gavaskar Suggestions Virat Kohli-Style Step For MI Captain

During MI’s defeat on Tuesday, Rohit Sharma was dismissed on 2 (8) by his rival Hardik.

The five-time champions Mumbai Indians were defeated by the holders Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Tuesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Chasing a large goal of 208, the Rohit Sharma-led side was held to 152/9 in 20 overs, with Afghan spinners Noor Ahmad (3/37) and Rashid Khan (2/27) sharing five wickets to lead GT’s attack. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar has urged that star batsman Rohit Sharma take a vacation following MI’s top-order collapse.

During MI’s defeat on Tuesday, Rohit was dismissed on 2 (8) by his adversary Hardik. Gavaskar advised Rohit to concentrate more on the impending World Test Championship (WTC) final, saying the MI captain “looks a little preoccupied.”

“I’d like to see a change in the Mumbai Indians’ batting order.” To be honest, I believe Rohit should take a sabbatical for the time being in order to prepare for the World Test Championship [final]. “[He] can come back for the last few matches, but right now, [he should] take a little bit of a breather,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

“He appears to be a little preoccupied.” “I don’t know if he’s thinking about the WTC [final] at this point,” Gavaskar added. “However, I believe that at this point, he needs to take a break and then return for the last three or four matches so that he is in rhythm for the WTC Final”

Notably, after struggling with his bat, former India captain Virat Kohli took a break from cricket last year.

Kohli discussed mental health and what went wrong at the time.

“I definitely feel lighter. It wasn’t simply the workload of cricket; there were other things going on that contributed to me slipping into that space,” Kohli told Star Sports last year.

“During this time, I learned a lot.” I was looking at things through one lens; you play with passion and heart, but the perception outside may not be the same, and people may not realize the worth of it as well,” he continued.

On Tuesday, India confirmed their roster for the WTC final against Australia, with former captain Ajinkya Rahane being restored to the squad following his IPL exploits for Chennai Super Kings this season.

Rahane, a veteran of 82 Tests, last played for India in the game’s longest format in January of last year. Due to his terrible performance, he has not been considered for selection since.
