The team captained by Rohit Sharma For the WTC final versus Australia at the Oval, India will be without a jersey sponsor. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been unable to locate a business willing to sponsor India. The former sponsor, Byju’s, pulled out of the arrangement in March when the ed-tech major wanted out of the agreement, which was intended to last through November.
Many Indian players in England donned training gear emblazoned with the BCCI emblem and the three stripes of Adidas’ new kit sponsor.
The absence of a sponsor for the mega-match is rare. Byju’s cancelled the arrangement with the BCCI in the middle due to financial losses.
The BCCI has not launched a tender after failing to obtain satisfactory answers from offline conversations with major Indian corporations.
“It would be only fitting that Indian cricket engages with prestigious and long-term partners rather than going for low-key deals,” a BCCI official said.
The previous agreement paid the BCCI more than 1.5 crores for every ICC match and 4.6 crores per bilateral international match. Although the importance of ICC tournaments has grown over time, a few crores for a single match is a drop in the ocean for the cash-rich BCCI. They’re willing to accept the hit.
The board is hopeful that they can find the proper partners in time for the October-November international Cup at home, thanks to their new five-year contract with Adidas and the now-busy ICC calendar, which includes a white-ball international tournament every year.
