Conway and Sams Unleash Fury to Demolish MINY in Epic TSK Triumph.

Devon Conway
Devon Conway scored his second fifty in the MLC this year.

Texas Super Kings effectively defended 154 for 7 against Mumbai Indians New York, continuing the early trend of batting first and winning games in Major League Cricket. Devon Conway’s second fifty of the seasons (74 off 55) paved the way for TSK’s total and the eventual 17-run triumph.

Conway and Faf du Plessis lunged for the boundaries early in the PowerPlay after du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat, but Kagiso Rabada quickly clipped his wings in the third over. The TSK captain intended to move across and collect his teammate, but he missed the ball and it fell into the stumps. Conway strung together two important stands – 38 out of 34 with Cody Chetty and 54 out of 42 with David Miller – to propel the team past the 100-run mark.

Conway continued to bat and even survived an extremely close run out call that the third umpire could have declared in favor of the fielding side but did not. Rashid Khan, who had played international cricket in Bangladesh just the day before, arrived in the 17th over and made an immediate impact. He struck out Conway for 74 runs off 55 pitches with a slider that stayed low and slipped under the left-handed batter’s bat. In 19 deliveries after his dismissal, TSK scored 32 runs to surpass 150.

MI New York was weakened in the second over when Monank Patel was run out by the second delivery. Shayan Jahangir and Steven Taylor reconstructed sluggishly as the asking price rose. Mohammad Mohsin ended their partnership in the ninth over, allowing MI NY’s renowned middle order to pursue the target. However, even they were unable to completely revive it, as TSK were exceptional in their profession. Nicholas Pooran was run out by Milind Kumar’s excellent flat throw at deep extra cover, which caught the West Indian short of his crease despite his dive.

MI Mohsin’s double-wicket over derailed New York’s chances of scoring the required runs when they needed 65 runs in 42 balls. When Jahangir danced down the track and misread the googly, he was stumped. The next delivery, Kieron Pollard was also baffled off a googly. Prior to the final overs, TSK bowled effectively, limiting MINY to 40 runs off 18 deliveries. Daniel Sams bowled two outstanding overs – the 18th and 20th – in which he conceded only 11 runs and picked up two wickets to end with a 4-over spell of 2 for 18 that included 14 dot balls. MINY scored 137 for 8, 17 runs short of TSK’s total.

Brief Scores: Texas Super Kings 154/7 in 20 overs (Devon Conway 74, Mitchell Santner 27; Trent Boult 2-29, Kagiso Rabada 2-30) beat MI New York 137/8 in 20 overs (Shayan Jahangir 41, Tim David 24; Daniel Sams 2-15, Mohammad Mohsin 2-36) by 17 runs
