MS Dhoni, the leader of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), cut a cake in their hotel to start the party after they won the final match of the IPL 2023. They beat Gujarat Titans (GT) by five runs (DLS Method) to win the IPL prize for the fifth time in history. They have now won as many titles as the Mumbai Indians (MI).
GT hit first last night because they lost the toss. They got a scary score of 214/4 in 20 overs, thanks to Sai Sudharsan’s (96) great innings. Rain delayed the start of the second inning, so the overs had to be cut short. DLS said that CSK’s new goal was 171 runs in 15 overs.
The bowlers for the Chennai Super Kings worked well together and led their team to victory in an exciting chase. Mohit Sharma did a great job bowling for GT, giving them hope of winning when CSK needed 10 runs on the last two balls to win. Ravindra Jadeja stepped up to the challenge and helped his team win the prize by hitting a six and a four.

After winning his fifth IPL trophy, CSK captain MS Dhoni told reporters after the game that he would try to play again for his fans next season if his body lets him. He said:
“Given the circumstances, this is the best time for me to say that I’m leaving my job. But the amount of love I’ve gotten from everywhere It would be easy to leave, but it would be harder to work hard for nine months and try to play in another IPL. It would be a gift from me to the fans, but it wouldn’t be good for my body.”
Dhoni, who was very emotional, said this about the loud cheers from fans at places all over the country:
“You do get emotional. The first game I played at CSK’s home ground; everyone was shouting my name. I had water in my eyes. On the bench, I needed to take a break. I realized I had to have fun with this. I think they like me because of who I am and because I’m so real. I don’t try to act like someone else. Just keep it simple.”
