The chances of David Warner’s team making the playoffs are all but gone because they are winless and stuck at the bottom of the standings.
Bottom-of-the-table The Delhi Capitals (DC), who have suffered five straight losses so far this season, will play the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
The chances of David Warner’s team making the playoffs are all but gone because they are winless and stuck at the bottom of the standings. The David Warner-led team’s think-tank is struggling to stop the rot that has taken hold and has already cut and changed the lineup numerous times in an effort to find a solution. They have suffered losses against LSG, GT, RR, MI, and most recently, RCB in Bangalore. So far this season. There is a risk that DC could lose every game this season based on their recent performances
The coaching staff continues to have faith in the players’ abilities and their ability to improve over the course of the next few games. In each of their games so far, DC has lost wickets in large groups. Additionally, the bowling and fielding performances have been lacking.
If DC hopes to win even one game this season, the squad will need to significantly improve in all three areas.
Warner has scored 228 runs this season, ranking him among the top scorers, but his 117 strikeouts per innings raise questions. He has been finding it difficult to score runs quickly and has appeared frustrated when batting on the field. His situation hasn’t been made any better by the team surrounding him dropping wickets like crazy.
The season has not gone well for Prithvi Shaw. Although the coaching staff has consistently supported and protected him, he has only scored 34 runs this season. Sarfaraz is out of time to realize his potential after failing to maintain his encouraging domestic form yet again. Mitch Marsh has also struggled mightily this season, recording just three runs in his three games of action.
DC might substitute Phil Salt for Prithvi Shaw in the starting XI. The English batter’s explosive style may be precisely what DC needs to back Warner while he takes his time and plays the anchor role. The hard-hitting batter is known for his attacking innings from the outset.
In the majority of the games this season, Delhi’s pacers have been thoroughly beaten. Axar, Lalit, and Kuldeep Yadav, three spinners, have also yet to produce performances that win matches.
A domestic seam bowler might take the place of Mustafizur Rahman in the starting lineup because he was quite expensive against RCB. This would also allow DC to substitute Salt for the under-pressure Shaw.
If the bowling unit hopes to succeed in the following games, they will need to come up with stronger strategies for dealing with the onslaught from the opposing batters. Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Khaleel Ahmed, Mukesh Kumar, and Chetan Sakariya are all domestic seam bowling alternatives for DC, but none of them have been effective this year.
