A new celebrity is born when a young Indian boy attains the top spot.

On the most recent MRF Tyres ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, India spinner Ravi Bishnoi maintains his remarkable ascent to the top of the order.

Although Bishnoi made his international debut only at the beginning of last year, his consistent performances for his country have propelled the 23-year-old to the top of the updated rankings by four positions.

Since their début against the West Indies in February 2022, the right-armer has amassed a total of 34 wickets in 21 Twenty20 International matches. During their recent 4-1 series victory over Australia on home soil, the right-armer was named Player of the Series.

Bishnoi’s ascent to the top has been anticipated; the leg-spinner first captured attention in South Africa in 2020 at the ICC Men’s Under 19 Cricket World Cup, where he led all players with seventeen wickets as India finished second-placed behind fellow Asian side Bangladesh.

Although frequently overshadowed by star-studded Indian bowlers such as Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravichandran Ashwin for slow bowling positions, Bishnoi has consistently delivered when given the chance to do so, and his economy rate of 7.14 is among the highest among the current crop of Indian bowlers.

Rashid Khan (second), Adil Rashid (equivalent to third), Wanindu Hasaranga (equivalent to third), and Maheesh Theekshana (fifth) all fall one position within the top ten as a result of Bishnoi’s ascent to the top rank. In contrast, fellow India spinner Axar Patel ascends sixteen positions to eleventh.

The two batsmen with the most significant movements in the most recent Twenty20 International rankings are Yashasvi Jaiswal of India, who leaps sixteen positions to 19th, trailing only Suryakumar Yadav, the top-ranked batsman. Travis Head, representing Australia, also improves sixteen positions to 29th, following the pair’s outstanding performance in their recent series on the subcontinent.

Following the conclusion of the inaugural Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand, there was also some movement in the most recent Test rankings, with Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand ascending one spot to seventh within the top order for batsmen on the list following scores of 41 and 58 in Sylhet.

Kane Williamson, a fellow countryman, maintains his position as the highest-ranked Test batsman. In contrast, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto ascends 13 positions to 42nd following an outstanding century in the Black Caps’ second innings.

Although towering New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson re-enters the rankings at No.13 after his return to red-ball cricket, and Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam leaps four positions to a career-high 14th after his 10-wicket haul and Player of the Match heroics against the Kiwis, the top ten for Test bowlers remains unchanged behind first-placed Ashwin.

The 708 rating points amassed by Taijul are the highest by any Bangladeshi bowler to date, surpassing the 705 rating points amassed by Shakib Al Hasan in August 2017.

After scoring his sixteenth ODI century in Antigua, West Indies captain Shai Hope climbs four positions to eleventh on the list of ODI batters. Teammate Brandon King advances six positions to 78th.
