Yuzvendra Chahal becomes the IPL’s joint-highest wicket-taker

Yuzvendra Chahal has tied Dwayne Bravo’s record for most wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chahal took four wickets against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Sawai Stadium in Jaipur.

Both Chahal and Bravo have 183 wickets. There are four Indian spinners in the top five, including Piyush Chawla, Amit Mishra, and Ravichandran Ashwin.

183 – Dwayne Bravo

182* – Yuzvendra Chahal

174 – Piyush Chawla

172 – Amith Mishra

171 – Ravichandran Ashwin

Chahal has an outstanding IPL record, taking 183 wickets in 142 matches at an economy rate of 8.08 and an average of 19.41.

Chahal played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) from 2014 to 2021, and it was with the Bengaluru-based club that he established himself as one of the world’s best wrist-spinners. Chahal is RCB’s all-time leading wicket-taker, with 139 in 113 matches. Chahal has taken 44 wickets in 28 games since joining RR in 2022.

In terms of the match, despite Chahal’s heroics, RR suffered heartbreak as they lost in a dramatic last-ball finish. The Rajasthan-based team was celebrating a victory when the no-ball siren ended their chances. Abdul Samad hit a six on the final ball of the game to seal SRH’s victory.

Earlier in the day, Sanju Samson won the toss and chose to bat first, and RR scored 214. Jos Buttler scored 95 off 59 balls, while Samson remained unbeaten with 66 runs off 39 balls. SRH never trailed the asking rate, but Chahal’s stunning spell, which saw him dismiss Anmolpreet Singh, Rahul Tripathi, Henrick Klaasen, and Aiden Markram, turned the game in RR’s favor before SRH scored 41 runs in the final two overs.
