A Phone Call From Dhoni: Dwayne Bravo on Becoming CSK’s Bowling Coach

After Chennai Super Kings beat Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League 2023 final, Dwayne Bravo, the cricket coach for CSK, said that MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming called him on the phone to convince him to become a coach. Bravo stopped playing in the league after the 2022 season. He was an important part of the Chennai Super Kings team and helped the bowling attack in a big way.

“When I announced my retirement from IPL cricket a year ago, it was sad, but I was also thankful for a successful IPL career.” As luck would have it, I got a phone call from MS Dhoni, the captain of CSK, and Stephen Fleming, the head coach. They asked me to join the teaching team. I had no question that this was where I wanted to go with my new cricket job,” Bravo said in a long Instagram post.

Bravo shared pictures and videos with his teammates, teachers, and staff from the Chennai team to show how happy he was. He also told players like Matheesha Pathirana, Deepak Chahar, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, and others how great they were..

“Congratulations to my team on this great win and what I think is one of the best IPL cricket seasons ever. I can’t say enough thanks to the teaching staff for making me feel welcome. I’m one of the youngest people on the coaching team, so I’ve had a lot to learn, but I’m loving every minute of it,” he said.

Bravo, who used to be the captain of the West Indies cricket team, had the most wickets in the IPL before the 2023 season, with 183 in 161 games. In May 2022, he played his last IPL game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against the Mumbai Indians.
