Shubman Gill keeps doing great things at the top level. Since August 2022, when he hit his first international hundred, he hasn’t been stopped. Gill came into the IPL 2023 season having made two hundreds in Tests, two hundreds in ODIs, and his first hundred in T20Is. On Monday, May 15, in match 62, Gujarat Titans (GT) beat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 34 runs. This was Gill’s first hundred in the IPL.
Gill is second on the list of hitters with the most runs in IPL 2023. He has 576 runs in 13 games at an average of 48 and a strike rate close to 150 (146.19), with four fifties and a hundred. The right-hander is acting like a gentleman, and he has definitely grown in size over the past few years. So, the former Indian batsman Robin Uthappa said a lot about Gill.
A superstar on par with Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli:
Uthappa, who won the IPL with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), told Hindustan Times, “I definitely think he has the ability to be as big as Virat Kohli or Sachin Tendulkar. I’m sure he’s got what it takes. He is a fantastic player who is in great shape and is making some great cricket right now.
Uthappa also said, “I think and feel that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the two next big things in Indian cricket.”
In IPL 2023, Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opening for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), has also made a lot of noise. In 13 games, he has scored 575 runs, which is 166.18 runs per game. This includes a century and four half-centuries.
