Jason Holder and Alzarri Joseph will return to the West Indies early from the men’s ODI World Cup qualifier in Zimbabwe, as they have nothing to play for. According to the WICB, the decision was made in order to manage their responsibilities prior to the all-format home series against India in July-August.
West Indies will not participate in the men’s ODI World Cup for the first time in its history. July 1’s Super Sixes loss to Scotland eliminated their prospects of advancing to the tournament proper. Their qualifying tournament schedule still includes matches against Oman and Sri Lanka on July 5 and 7, in which they have nothing to gain.
The India series, meanwhile, begins its World Test Championship cycle on July 12 in Dominica and on July 20 in Trinidad. The two teams will then compete in three 50-over matches in preparation for their respective World Cup campaigns on July 27, July 29, and August 1, followed by five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) between August 3 and August 13, with the final two matches taking place in Florida.
